Strategy Development Case Study 2
Manchester City Pride and Stockport Partnership - Ex Offender Research
This report examined the issues relating to offending behaviour and ex-offenders in terms of the barriers faced by ex-offenders, in terms of primary and secondary barriers; the barriers to education and employment; differences between male and female experiences and differences in youth and adult experience.
It looked at the Policy Context of measures to prevent offending and re-offending and the effects of sentencing and the judicial system and presents the findings of five local case studies.
The main aims of the project were:
To transfer the potential of our successful supported employment model to a wide range of disadvantaged groups in our communities;
To increase the capacity of employers to recruit and retain a diverse workforce;
To produce a template for Welfare to Work services across Greater Manchester.
City Pride is working closely with a range of local, regional and national employers to identify best practice in managing diversity. This learning is happening both through 1 to 1 contact with employers and the formation of employer networks in both Bury and Stockport.
Our evaluation assisted in the development of a new policy for engaging offenders post release and getting them learning new skills and linking those skills to employment opportunities.
