How we hold and process your information

Wavehill are undertaking an evaluation on behalf of Be Inspired Staffordshire University.

The information gathered is used to help Be Inspired Staffordshire University to understand the value of the support to project participants and to assess its wider impacts.

People taking part in the survey have been chosen as they are participants on the Be Inspired programme. Participation in the survey is voluntary. You can decide to not take part before or during the interview and can choose to not answer certain questions if you prefer.


Any personal information collected as part of the survey is kept confidential. Your answers to the survey will not be made public in a way that could lead to you or your business being identified. The information is only used for research purposes. Wavehill will produce a report based on the data but this will not identify any individuals


Your personal data is deleted within 6 months of project completion. Your answers to the anonymously are linked anonymously to other data sources for non-commercial research purposes only, unless you ask for this linkage to not take place. The anonymised data is held securely and is only ever used for non-commercial research purposes. We do not share or use your information for commercial or marketing purposes.

Under the new data protection legislation, you have the right:

  • To access your personal data held by Be Inspired Staffordshire University

  • To require Be Inspired Staffordshire University to correct any mistakes in that data.

1. What is the Be Inspired Staffordshire University (biSU) evaluation?


BiSU is a project aimed at supporting current Students, Graduates or associates of the University who want to start their own business, freelance or commission their work. It is funded through ERDF and University Higher Education Innovation Fund and supports individuals in starting their own business (or self-employment) with modest funding, training and business mentoring. The project started in 2016 and will run until 2019 and supports three cohorts of beneficiaries – one for each year.


Wavehill have been appointed to undertake an independent evaluation and review of the biSU project. The aim of is to understand the value of the support to project participants and to assess its wider impacts.


The project includes several research activities, central among them is gaining feedback from beneficiaries. These interviews will be undertaken with the Year 1 cohort who have nearly completed their projects.

2. What type of information is collected through the survey?


The survey covers a wide range of topics. These include:

  • Current business activities,

  • Your current employment situation, and

  • The role the biSU support has played in your business activities


3. What is personal data?


Personal data means any information that could lead to a person being identified either alone or in combination with other widely-available information, e.g. their name, their address, or details specific to that person.

The survey collects some personal data for all respondents such as gender and business details.  


4. How long will personal data be kept for?

Wavehill will delete all personal data six months after project completion and all data provided to biSU will be anonymised and aggregated.

6. What is the purpose of processing your answers?

The data is used for the biSU evaluation will assist in improving the quality of the provision and the effectiveness of the support in future.

By taking part, you will be helping Be Inspired Staffordshire University to provide support to aspiring business owners.

7. Who has access to the personal data collected through the survey?

The data collected will be stored securely on our (Wavehill’s) systems until 6 months after project completion. Any comments that you make will be confidential and the information you provide will only be used for the purposes of this evaluation. Comments that you make will not be attributed to you. This means it will be impossible for anyone to identify you from any published reports because information will be anonymised.
