In June 2014, Wavehill was commissioned by Somerset County Council to undertake an in-depth survey designed to offer insights into the skills and training needs of employers in Somerset for Somerset County Council and the Somerset Employment and Skills Group (SESG). The survey will assist the SESG in determining future priorities and help to identify appropriate activity. It will also contribute to the activities planned and funded by the LEP and help to inform the Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) and the application of for European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF).The survey was partly based on the UK Commission for Employment & Skills (UKCES) Employer Skills Survey (ESS), which has allowed the findings to be compared to this wider and more comprehensive survey.
This is useful because as the survey is repeated over time the difference between the Somerset Skills Survey and the ESS will be a good indicator of development and change.
