In September 2016, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council engaged Wavehill Ltd to help them to further develop the Economic Growth Strategy (EGS) and Action Plan which was in an embryonic form at the time of engagement. The work needed to account for emerging issues from the City Deal to help position and align the EGS with these important developments. A further requirement was to ensure the incorporation of key issues and strategic cornerstones identified by the Skills Needs work completed earlier in 2016, draw on findings from the NEET Journey work plus other material related to the work of the Local Skills and Innovation Partnership for South East Wales, and emerging issues related to recent economic development and inward investment in the county borough, and the Local Wellbeing measures. It aimed to support a holistic approach to economic growth in the county borough to provide clarity to local authority and partner organisations on their role in delivery and implementation of the EGS to aid further positive change in the economic fortunes of Merthyr Tydfil.
Using a mix of workshops with senior staff and interviews across the authority and stakeholders the work highlighted key components of the strategy that was drafted that underpins a range of key strategies being developed by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council.
