Report Published: Rural Enterprise Exmoor Research

Exmoor National Park Authority in partnership with Local Authorities and the Heart of the South West LEP through the Rural Enterprise Exmoor initiative, have published the report produced by Wavehill into the size of the local economy and the needs of the local business community. The research used a range of primary research to establish the extent of economic activity taking place within Exmoor and identifies key opportunities and evidence to support the development of local plans and policies to support the economic development of the area.

The report shows 60% more businesses are operating from within the National Park than is shown in official statistics. The survey revealed low productivity across the local economy, but high value attached to living on Exmoor, its natural assets and the wellbeing this brought to staff. Opportunities were expressed in the development of a cross Exmoor business network and making greater use of the branding and identity the National Park offers.

Copy of the report is available here alongside some further background and details on the Rural Enterprise Exmoor initiative.
