At Wavehill, we measure our success not only in business growth but by our wider social impact and how we engage with our local communities. That's why we’ve committed 1% of our pre-tax profits to support charitable organisations and important causes throughout the UK. By sharing our success in this way, we hope to strengthen the communities around us and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
As an employee-owned company, we believe in creating a workplace where everyone is not only invested in our business success but also has a voice in the causes we support. Each year we invite all staff from our four office locations to nominate a charity or cause that is important to them. Following a shortlisting process, employees then cast their votes for the organisation they feel we should support that year. This year, we are proud to announce that the Rainbow Trust and Cancer Research UK as our chosen charities.
“Rainbow Trust does not receive any central government funding, and we, therefore, rely on support from organisations like Wavehill Newcastle who are based within the communities we serve. We are delighted to have received a donation that will enable us to provide nearly 50 hours of emotional and practical support to families who are affected by the complexities that come with serious childhood illness. Thank you to the team for nominating Rainbow Trust, we are so grateful for your support!”
Katherine Burgess, Corporate & Community Fundraising Manager, Rainbow Trust
Why the 1% Pledge?
The 1% pledge allows us to make a lasting difference by supporting causes aligned with our values. By committing 1% of our pre-tax profits, we aim to create a sustainable model of giving that grows with our business and creates a meaningful social impact over time. Involving employees directly in the process ensures that our support reflects the passions and priorities of our team. It’s not only about donating funds, but also about fostering a culture of responsibility, community engagement, and collective purpose.
Employee Ownership in Action
As an employee-owned business, we know that the best ideas and motivations often come from our people. Inviting team members to nominate charities allows them to bring forward causes they feel passionate about, giving every team member a sense of ownership in our charitable efforts. It helps to reinforce our inclusive culture and strengthens our shared mission and values.
Through this annual process, we have supported a wide range of causes over the years, from local community projects to nationally recognised organisations, helping to drive positive change across the UK.
