Cheltenham Business and Place Employee Survey

FAQs for Employers

1. Why am I being asked to send the survey to my employees?

Cheltenham Borough Council have asked Wavehill to conduct research that will provide intelligence on the challenges and opportunities for businesses located in the area. As part of that research, we are hoping to gather information from employees about how they rate Cheltenham as a place to live and work. CBC are hoping that the information from this survey will be useful to the council and also to employers in order to better understand the dynamics of the local labour market.

We are asking employers to send out the survey in order for it to remain anonymous (i.e. we will not gather any names or personal identifiers and we will not be asking employers to share any of the details of their employees with us, such as email addresses, etc.).

2. Will you know who the responses to the survey come from?

Sending out the survey through employers, with their consent, means that we will not be accessing or using any personal information of those employees. The survey will contain no questions asking for any personal details.

3. But will you know which company employees work for?

The survey link will contain an embedded code for each company, which will allow us to match the survey responses with the employer of the respondent.

4. Why are you doing that?

Being able to match the survey response to the employer will allow us to understand what sector people work in and what is the primary area of economic activity. We will also be able to produce reports for all the participating employers that summarises the data from their workforce and which may provide a very useful and interesting insight into their views about Cheltenham as a place to live and work.

5. Will you ask them anything about their employer?

No.

6. Will you ask them anything about their job?

Yes. We will be asking them about their job role and how long they have been in their position. However, any specific references to a particular employer will be removed from the survey and will not be included in any reporting. We are not interested in their views about their employer, only their views about Cheltenham and the challenges and opportunities of living and working there.

7. Will this report be published?

No. However, Cheltenham Borough Council has indicated that they would like Wavehill to present the report to the new Business Leadership Group.

8.What’s in it for me?

As we stated above, we will produce reports for all the participating employers that summarises the data from their workforce and which may provide a very useful and interesting insight into their views about Cheltenham as a place to live and work. This intelligence could be very useful for businesses that are either recruiting, thinking of recruiting, or who may be having problems accessing skills or retaining skilled employees.

9. How can I participate?

If you would like to participate in the employee survey through sending out the survey invitation to your employees, you can either:

10. Will our participation be publicly acknowledged?

That is up to you. In the final report, we will include the names of businesses who have taken part in the research and who have indicated that they would like them to be included. If you tell us that you would prefer not to be acknowledged, your participation will remain anonymous and confidential. No business will be identified anywhere in the reporting unless they have explicitly given consent and asked to be acknowledged.
