The Arts Council of Wales has commissioned Wavehill to evaluate ‘Creative Learning through the Arts – an action plan for Wales’ (CLTA). The action plan was launched in March 2015, with £20m funding over five years. The high-profile education initiative comprises two innovative strands of education activity: the Lead Creative Schools Scheme and the All-Wales Arts and Education Offer. Wavehill have engaged with a range of Schools participating in the Lead Creative Schools Scheme. The contact details for Schools participating in this Scheme were provided to Wavehill by Arts Council of Wales. In the forms distributed as part of this evaluation, we ask for some personal information in relation to individuals involved in Lead Creative Schools Scheme . Wavehill will delete the information provided and all personal data relating to this research six-months after the end of the evaluation. It is also important to note that the team undertaking the evaluation do not work for the Arts Council of Wales or any of the other organisations that are involved in the delivery or funding of this programme. This is an independent evaluation. Further information 1. Why is this research happening? The purpose of this research is to evaluate the ‘Creative Learning through the Arts’ programme to gain knowledge on how creative teaching and learning can work most effectively in Wales to improve attainment and outcomes for learners, as well as developing the creative capacities of schools and teachers in ways that will become self-sustaining. 2. What type of information is collected through the forms distributed as part of this evaluation? The forms provide a record of each activities in each School and allows key learning to be shared, functioning as ongoing tools for Creative Agents, teachers and Creative Practitioners. The forms capture some personal information in relation to individual participants involved in Lead Creative Schools scheme. 3. What is personal data? Personal data means any information that could lead to a person being identified either alone or in combination with other widely-available information, e.g. their name, their address, or details specific to that person. 4. How long will personal data be kept for? Wavehill will securely hold personal data during the contract period but will be deleted six months after the end of the contract. 5. What is the legal basis for processing the data from the interviews? This evaluation enables the Arts Council of Wales to understand whether the ‘Creative Learning through the Arts’ programme is effective. It is therefore used to support activities within the Arts Council Wales public task. For example, the information collected might be used:

  • To decide whether changes need to be made to the CLTA programme

  • To decide whether schemes like CLTA should continue in the future

  • To understand how creative teaching and learning can work most effectively in Wales

6. What is the purpose of processing your answers to the interview? The data is used for research and evaluation purposes only. The data will be analysed to enable Arts Council of Wales to understand the impact and effectiveness of the CLTA programme. The data will not be used for commercial or marketing purposes and it will not be used to take make decisions about you as an individual. 7. Who has access to the personal data collected through the interview? The personal information received by Arts Council of Wales will be processed in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 1998. The only people who will have access to the data will be Arts Council of Wales, Welsh Government and Wavehill. Wavehill will have a record of the responses to the form. This record, along with any other notes provided, will be analysed by researchers at Wavehill to produce a report for the Arts Council of Wales. This report will not identify any individuals participating in the programme. Wavehill will delete all personal data within six months of the end of the project.
