Embracing Equity – what this means for Wavehill

The theme for this year’s International Women's Day (IWD) is focused on embracing equity. Whilst we will see our social media feeds filled with the celebration of women, we’d like to focus specifically on the very real and important message that this year’s theme around promoting equity conveys.

To embrace equity is to acknowledge that not everyone starts from the same position. It recognises that an individual has different circumstances and looks to address inherit imbalances to make things fairer.

Over the last few months, we have been reflecting on what equity means for us as a company, looking at how we incorporate this concept within our work practices, our research and within our company culture. As an employee-owned company this accountability is a core pillar of Wavehill. We acknowledge that we are on a journey of learning which can be best summarised via our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I). Some broader processes we’ve addressed include:

  • Through our work practices and projects we take a meaningful and inclusive approach to our social research to ensure all voices are heard, and more-hard to reach communities are represented.

  • Through our work culture we have just approved a nine-day fortnight to support better work-life balance for our staff and are reviewing our recruitment and retention strategies through an ED&I lens.

  • From a community perspective we have pledged 1% of our annual profits to selected community causes and will be sharing details of this in due course.

Keep an eye on how we continue to progress through our ED&I journey and get in touch if you want to chat through the approaches that we are taking.
