As part of Wavehill’s ongoing commitment to social value, we value the importance of our local communities and we regularly donate to charities and community organisations as part of our projects whose work strengthens communities, builds skills and improves people’s wellbeing. This works well alongside our commitment to give 1% of our pre-tax profit to charitable causes each year, chosen by our colleagues.
One of the organisations we’re particularly proud to support is Newground Together - a charity dedicated to empowering people across the North of England through skills development, youth programmes, community projects and outdoor wellbeing activities.
Newground Together
Newground Together plays a vital role in supporting local communities, offering programmes that help people develop confidence, skills and opportunities. Their work spans employment support, youth engagement, community development and mental wellbeing initiatives - all delivered by a passionate team of staff and volunteers.
Our recent donation has contributed to work at Elland Community Hub, one of Newground Together’s key community partners. The Hub is a lively, inclusive space where:
Employment and skills support is delivered
Youth clubs run weekly activities
Community events bring local residents together
Affordable, volunteer‑run meals are served
Exercise sessions help improve physical wellbeing
A new SEN sensory room has recently been opened.
Transforming the Entrance Space
Using our contribution, the team focused on transforming the Hub’s entrance into a much more welcoming, inviting space for young people. With support from Newground volunteers, the area has been brightened up and now feels warmer, safer and more inviting.
The entrance to the Hub is located down a side stairwell, a spot often used by young people during the summer months. The space has been brightened, cleaned, restored and made this area more welcoming, accessible and inviting.
Next aim
The next planned phase is to develop the area further into a sensory‑inspired space, incorporating herbs and natural elements. Importantly, young people will be directly involved in designing and shaping this next stage as they are involved in developing their own space.
A Message from Leanne at Newground Together
“We decided to work with one of our partners Elland Community Hub to use the funds. We partner with Elland Hub for a range of projects. We deliver employment and skills support from the building and run one of youth clubs from there. The staff at Elland Hub are really proactive in bringing the community together through a range of community events aiming and improving wellbeing and eradicating loneliness. They offer an affordable community meal, run by volunteers on a Thursday, offer exercise sessions, and have just opened an SEN sensory room.”
Proud to Support
We’re thrilled to see what Newground Together has achieved with our support, and we look forward to following the progress of the next stage. Their dedication to creating inclusive, welcoming community spaces aligns closely with Wavehill’s values and our commitment to social value.
